Maa Gruhas — Odisha
Infrastructural barriers coupled with lack of transportational facilities constraints expecting mothers in rural areas from accessing safe and healthy deliveries. In 2009, the Government of Odisha set up Maa Gruhas in the interior pockets of the state to provide quality antenatal care and access to institutional deliveries.
Although these facilities have facilitated a huge decline in maternal and newborn mortality, they face a significant power crisis that interrupts everyday functioning of the facilities.
SELCO Foundation in collaboration with Gopabandhu Development Society (GDS) provided solar energy to six Maa Gruhas in rural Odisha to ensure that quality health care is administered to expecting mothers throughout the day.
SELCO Foundation are pioneers in delivering sustainable energy to low-income group communities in India. Their interventions focus on building assets that not only champions renewable energy but creates solutions that increase incomes, improves quality of life, and alleviates poverty.
HOPESTORYMEDIA was commissioned to document seven different health interventions led by SELCO in partnership with local or national organisations across India.
